Summer Travel Guide: Visit Washington DC!

Here Are Some Things to See If You Take a Vacation to Washington DC This Summer!

Washington DC is a great place to visit for a vacation over the summer. The weather gets beautiful, there are plenty of things to see and tour, and it is a very cool experience to be able to visit the nation's capital. Though the first thing you may think of when you think of DC is museums and history, there are a lot of non-history related things to do if you don't want to be touring the entire time.

First off, it is fairly easy to find good reservations for Washington DC. Look on travel sites such as Orbitz and Travelocity to pick out a hotel or motel for your needs. Since DC is such a large are, you can stay outside of the actual city and still be able to tour around different places. Reservations at all different kinds of hotels are available throughout the summer, so pick one that best suits your budget and needs!

In terms of things to do, there are a lot of fun activities that you can do while you stay in the DC area. First, take a day or two and explore all of the wonderful museums on the National Mall. Make sure to visit the Smithsonian, Air and Space Museum, and any other museums that may strike your interest.

If you are visiting during the summer months, you will have a chance to experience the beautiful confines of Nationals Park. The Washington Nationals represent Washington DC in Major League Baseball, so take an evening (or Sunday afternoon) and attend a game. This is a great opportunity for anyone, especially those with young children. Nationals games are a lot of fun, and the ballpark is practically brand new.

If you have a little bit of cash to spend, shopping is all around the DC area. Check out Pentagon City Mall, which is right next to the Pentagon. If you have a rent-a-car, take a trip out to Tysons Corner Mall-one of the biggest malls in the entire country.

It is easy to get around the DC area. If you have a car, I would personally stick to using it outside of the city. If you are going into the city, take the Metro train system. Farecards are cheap, and you won't have to hassle with traffic or city driving. You can get nearly anywhere through a short walk when you are in the city.

Hope you have a great trip to the DC area!
