Summer Travel Horror Story

One Airport I Choose to Avoid

Lanie
One lovely July day, my mother and I set off on an active travel vacation. We were taking a hiking tour of Yellow Stone National Park, Wyoming. The trip wound up being an adventure the travel was too scary.

Our scheduled flight, New Jersey to Colorado took longer than expected because of thunderstorms out west. We circled in the sky watching a rainbow reappear just below our plane. The reason we circled, Denver shuts down its runway if there's lightning within a certain radius of the airport. We sat until an announcement that we would have to get clearance to land because we were almost out of gas!

Finally, we landed and on the runway. We sat in the plane as all activity was still shut down at the airport. No one was allowed off the plane. When we finally could change planes; hotel contact was necessary to say we would miss check in time.

Arriving at our destination, Jackson Hole, Wyoming we had a new surprise. No luggage! Much to our dismay we would have to hike Yellowstone in our high heel shoes. When our luggage finally arrived, it was soaked. It must have sat out on the runway in the rain over night.

Our luggage got to us that evening; however, our return flight was delayed because of "an engine problem" causing a delay to Denver Airport where we would miss the home flight. In Colorado, we were stuck yet again against our wishes.
