Summer Weekend Escape: Drowsy Water Ranch in Grandby, Colorado

For a real western vacation, look no further than Drowsy Water Ranch in Granby CO. The owners promise you a vacation experience with down-home hospitality. You will be taken back to the traditional western era.

Drowsy Water Ranch is located in a forested valley far from the nearest paved road but only six miles from town. Everything at the ranch is in convient walking distance. The barns, corrals, stable, swimming pool, fishing pond and children's playground are located close to the cabins.

The beautiful rustic lodge is the gathering place for guests. It is always open with fresh hot coffee. You can enjoy cards, games, or just chat with other guests. You can also browse the lodge library for a good book to read.

Trail rides wind through the thick forest of pines and aspens over rolling hills. While you ride you can enjoy the view of the majestic Colorado Rockies. Daily rides are available by age groups and riding ability. All horses are bred, raised, and trained for the riding abilities of all riders. There is daily instruction in both an arena or on the trail.

Meals are all you can eat. Great pride is taken in meal preparation from recipes handed down from old trail hands. The meals are pure western and always delicious. Most meals are served family style in the dining room at the lodge. There are also outdoor meals such as the sunrise breakfast on a mountaintop and the open-hearth barbeque chuck wagon lunches. If notified in advance the staff can accommodate any special diet.

All cabins are tucked away discretely in the trees for your privacy. There are porches to relax on, some are covered, and others are open. All cabins are decorated in western style. There are cabins of one, two, three or four bedrooms. Several are great for larger families and friends wanting to be close to each other. All cabins are cleaned daily and include coffee makers, some even have refrigerators.

Drowsy Ranch provides supervised children's programs. All supervisors are college students' hand picked for their experience, attentiveness, and interests in child development and recreation. The programs include games, arts and crafts, and horseback riding which is planned for every age group. There are also nature hikes, cookouts, storytelling, and fishing to name a few activities.

For the adults there is horseback riding, dancing, and campfire sing-a-longs. There is nearby white water rafting facilities and four-wheel driving tours. The Colorado River also offers great trout fishing.

Drowsy Water Ranch sits on 640 acres of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. The summer guest season extends from early June through mid September. The ranch borders on the Arapahoe National Forest. At an elevation of over 8,000 feet making for comfortable daytime weather and cool campfire evening weather.
