Unless you have been living in a cave for the past several decades, even amateurs know that a healthy workout is important to fend off obesity and other health issues related to inactivity. Many people have found that creating and sticking with a consistent workout schedule is actually the hardest part about working out especially for amateurs. When the going gets tough, the tough get rowing. Canoeing is a great summer workout that exercises arms and torso. Summer Swimming

If you can float, you can swim, and with just a short, quick, and easy lesson, even amateurs can swim well enough to get a nice workout in the summer months. Arms and legs will as well as chest muscles will benefit from this summer workout. And no matter how hot it might be, you will stay cool in the water.

Summer Pole hiking

Buy an official hiking pole or find a tall and sturdy stick and even amateurs will be ready to go. Legs will benefit most from this workout in the summer although arms will get some attention as well. You may want to bring along some water, but if you are climbing shady hills you will stay cool in the summer heat.

Amateur Snorkeling

If you get tired or sore from an aggressive swimming workout, even amateurs can float. Just get a snorkel set, and then float around for awhile. The actual workout will be minimal for amateurs, but you'll stay cool and you won't be in front of your T.V. eating potato chips.

Beach walking work out

Maybe you don't want to swim. Even amateurs can walk in the summer. Find a beach to walk along and wear some sandals. The soft sand will make walking slightly more difficult than normal and will five your leg muscles more of a workout. If the summer heat starts to get to you, just step into the waves.

Amateur Tennis Workout

If there is no beach nearby for amateurs, some backyard tennis should do the trick. Just set up a net under some shade trees to escape the summer heat and give your amateur arms a gentle workout. Any amateur can hit a "birdie" at least some of the time.

Summer Rollerblading

Move over roller skates, roller blades are new summer workout hit. Amateurs may need a little more caution at first, but within hours or a couple of days you will be gliding down the sidewalk in style. Legs are going to love this workout and you will enjoy the wind in your face but you should bring some water.

Summer Volleyball Workout

For those amateurs who are a little more athletic, volleyball is a great summer workout activity for you. Legs and arms and pride will all get a great workout in the summer heat. If you can manage to set the net up under some shade trees you and your team mates will be golden. Bring plenty of water though, you'll need it.
