Aziza Shumba
Summer's approaching soon and it is important that your skin is well prepared to look wonderful and healthy during those beautiful sunny days. It's finally time to take off your coat and put on your favorite shorts, and having healthy skin will make you feel great. So what foods actually help you have beautiful, healthy skin? Grab your grocery list and jot down a few of these great options for your next trip to the store.

Salmon

Salmon is great source for Omega 3 which promotes youthful, moisturized skin. Protein is also found in this fish that helps repair cells, so your skin will be nice and strong. It's low in calories and saturated fat so enjoying this delicious cold-water fish twice a week is a healthy choice.

Mangoes

This fruit will give your body a sufficient amount of vitamin A, and your skin will thank you for it. Eat mangoes to get soft and radiant skin and also be equipped with anti-oxidants that combat free radicals that promote aging.

Whole-Grain Breads

Worried about sun damaged skin? Well if you stock up on whole-grain products (whole-wheat bread, cereal, brown rice) your skin will be better prepared for the sun's rays. These foods contain selenium, which is a mineral that affects skin cell health. If you have high levels of selenium, you will have less skin damage from the sun. Overall, whole grain is healthier than white bread products.

Almonds

Another defender against sun damage is almonds. They contain lots of vitamin E which helps you skin protect against damaging effects of the sun. Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant so it also promotes beautiful, youthful skin.

Canned Tuna

Like whole-grain foods, canned tuna is a perfect source for selenium, which will keep your skin tight and soft. You will still get that protection against the sun as well as antioxidants that will keep your skin young.

Low-Fat Yogurt

Low-fat yogurt is full of vitamin A, vitamin D and calcium and also a great choice for your skin. Plain yogurt can also be used to help ease sunburn pain by applying it directly on the skin. It will rehydrate your skin which will help it recover from sunburn.

Flaxseed

Like Salmon, flaxseed is the perfect choice for Omega 3. You can add flaxseed to many dishes including smoothies, cereals and salads or even just put some in water. Flaxseed contains anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Sweet Potato

Full of beta-carotene, sweet potatoes give your body vitamin A as well as keep your skin soft and clear. They also serve as an anti-oxidant.

Green Tea

Green tea is known for its anti-aging abilities. It is another source for anti-oxidants that fight against the free radicals from the sun. You can steep a nice hot cup of this tea, or even apply the leaves directly to your skin to exfoliate.

Turkey

Although it may not be Thanksgiving, remember to include turkey on your next grocery list. High in selenium and protein, turkey is a wonderful low fat option for healthy skin.

Blackberries, Blueberries, Strawberries

Ready for a fruit salad? Include these delicious berries in your diet to help fight against skin aging and damage. You can even make a great anti-aging smoothie with these tasty berries.
