Summertime Fireworks and Old Glory

Honoring the Tradition of Independence Day in America

Don Waters

It comes around every year when the weather is hot

It is commemorated, anticipated and enjoyed by a lot

Hot food, loud music, and soda pop is consumed

Being upbeat, waving the flag and patriotism is assumed

Watching the colors burning brightly in the sky at night

We can thank our forefathers courage for putting up a fight

All they wanted was freedom from the king's reign

Even though they knew it would cause them much pain

Now we sit smugly and take our freedom for granted

But on the fourth of July our viewpoint is slanted

We celebrate our democracy and all that it means

God bless America, hot dogs, and baked beans
