Summertime Hair Repair Tips

Give Those Dehydrated, Wind Beaten Locks the TLC They Need This Summer.

BillyLowe
Summer is in full swing, the beaches are packed and your hair is screaming for moisture. If you're like most travelers, dealing with weather beaten hair can sometimes be a drag. Hair can feel dehydrated, look parched, the color can fade more quickly, and your overall results simply aren't what they should be.

Fear not good readers! Beverly Hills stylist Billy Lowe gives you quick tips and techniques on caring for your hair this summer.

1. My biggest tip is to always wear a wide-brim hat. You not only cover and protect your hair, but your skin as well. My friends at sungrubbies.com have a wide variety of fun hats of all shapes, sizes and colors to choose from, and they make it fun and simple to order your items.

2. While there's not really a "sunscreen" for hair, there are products that have sun protecting/UV defending agents in them. Pureology makes a great product called Colourmax. This light-weight, leave in conditioner is great for de-tangling, and has UV defenders in it as well. Sunflower is a natural UV defender and can be found in many hair-care products. Ask your salon professional about protecting your hair with great products this summer.

3. Ask your salon professional for a glossing or deep conditioning service on your next visit. This will help give hair the moisture boost it may need to fight extreme weather this summer. Many are soy based which helps protect and strengthen hair, and make it more shiny and manageable for summer.

4. Book routine hair appointments. Don't go too long inbetween cut or color services. Hair will look more weather beaten or dehydrated. If you want healthy looking hair, it's important to book routine appointments. It's just like working out at the gym. The more consistent you are, the better your results.

5. Never let chlorine or salt water dry in your hair. Shampoo and condition immediately after swimming or spending time in the sauna or hot tub. Chlorine and salt can cause build-up on hair, which can dehydrate hair, and even affect the integrity of color treated hair. Use a purifying shampoo once or twice a week if you are an active swimmer or sun worshiper this summer. Before you swim, apply a deep conditioner to wet hair (do not rinse out) to help provide a protective barrier while you're out and about. After swimming, shampoo and condition immediately.

6. Always use your professional (salon recommended) beauty products when you travel. Ask your stylist for travel size items of your favorite products and never rely on hotel items for your hair-care or beauty needs. If you can't find sample sizes, you can buy smaller bottles & fill them yourself with your favorite products.

7. Give yourself an at-home deep conditioning treatment. Use your favorite conditioner, add a little shea butter or cholesterol, mix in a few of your favorite essential oils, and massage into hair after your shampoo. Leave in for 10-15 minutes (wrapped in a warm/wet towel), and rinse well. Hair will be silky smooth, and you'll feel great.

We hope you enjoy these summertime hair care tips from Billy Lowe.
