Summertime with Your Kids

Mandy Hill
When school finally let's out, kids are so excited. This isn't always the case for parents. When they used to have a little free time during the day to catch up on things, now they have to entertain the kids all day long. There are plenty of fun and exciting things you can do with your kids, as well as many things your kids can do so that you can still have a little time to yourself. It's not that you don't enjoy spending time with your kids, but every parent needs a little break every now and then. Let's cover some things you can do with your children, and then we will go over ideas to give yourself a little break.

When the weather gets warmer, kids get more active. No longer do they have to bundle up to go outside. What better way to entertain the kids then going outside where they have the freedom to run around and play as hard as they want to. You won't have to worry about them running in the house. Take the kids to your local park for summer fun. There are plenty of parks around most areas that are safe and clean that your children will enjoy. Some parks even include a water area now where kids can run through various sprinklers and buckets of water will dump on the anxiously awaiting kids below. The park is a great place for kids young and old. Since there will most likely be other parents around, it is also a good time for you to get some grown up conversation while the kids play.

A swimming pool is also a great form of entertainment during the summer months. All you need are some beach towels and sun block. Most public pools have a certified lifeguard on duty at all times so you know your kids will be safe. If you don't like hanging around the public pool, you may want to invest in your very own pool. Even a small, inexpensive, above ground pool can provide hours of fun for the hot youngsters. Be sure they are under supervision at all times though.

Some areas have groups of moms that take turns with play times with the kids. Ask around your neighborhood to see if there are any moms interested in trading play dates. This way, while one mom watches the kids, the other moms can be away enjoying time by themselves or spending time with friends their own age. Whatever you choose to entertain your children, just be sure you enjoy the time you have with them. Before you know it you will be driving them to and from school again wondering where the summer has gone!
