Summertime Senses

Eric Hubbard
The rooster crows from behind the field
Our attention he demands us to yield

The orange sunrise breaks across the sky
In the morning clouds, the crows do fly

Across the grass the dew does glaze
A stale warm wind brings in the summer haze

From up the hill across the road
Where dogs and cats has proudly strode

The sounds of kids begin the day
Plotting and planning how to play

A slight waver in the street
Begins to show, the daytime heat

A bumblebees erratic flight
Causes children to dodge in fright

The woodpecker upon the oak is pounding
The hawk upon the mouse is hounding

The warm wind blows with a scent of rain
The western sky appears to darken, kids hopes drain

The summer storm comes in fierce and fast
But like moms temper, it doesn't last

Across the valley as it passes
The animals stir from beneath the grasses

The summers day is fading at last
The summers night is coming fast.
