Summertime Water Play Without a Swimming Pool

Dana Britt
Summertime in America is so often synonymous with swimming, with water play in the hot, bright sunshine for all ages. Having a swimming pool deep enough to jump in and swim or set afloat on a water raft for a relaxing drift would be an ideal setup in the summertime. However, many of us(my family included) do not have a swimming pool deep enough for such indulgences and yet we will stay cool as well with lots of fun water play ideas. In this article, we'll share a few fun, cool and wet ideas we have for water play and staying cool in the summertime without a swimming pool to jump into.

The first idea for fun, summertime water play, would be inexpensive wading pools. Much, much cheaper than a deeper pool for true swimming, these little kiddie pools can still provide lots of fun and keeping cool. Children of all ages can still splash and play in a wading pool. For adults, sitting in a chair poolside with your feet in the wading pool and being splashed by the children running amok is one definitely cool-keeping option. Sitting poolside of even such a small pool with children splashing about is sure to guarantee a constant state of wetness.

Add a water hose sprinkler or two to the mix of summertime toys, and keeping cool in the summertime is even easier. Children and even dogs love to run about the yard, dashing through the water sprays. Adults can join them in a fun game of tag or even simply pull up a chair, letting the water sprays keep you cool. As long as lots of cool water is involved, summertime water play is always refreshing, whether running about or sitting and soaking it up.

Water balloons can be cheaply purchased and are always sure to guarantee wet, shrieking fun for folks of all ages. The filling of the balloons will usually result in every single person being soaking wet long before the actual water balloon battle begins. This activity does need attention to detail afterwards to ensure safety of kids and pets in that all broken balloon pieces are gathered and thrown away.

Water gun toys are always a big hit anytime, never more so than in the heat of the summertime. Water guns can be cheap dollar store variety all the way up to super soaker status, depending on what you want to invest money-wise. Loading up water guns and playing tag, or simply running amok and getting wet while soaking others, is a fantastic summertime activity to keep cool.

There are also homemade things that can be used in water play, toys adapted from typical household items. Empty and clean dishwashing liquid bottles are perfect homemade water guns, even empty soda pop or juice bottles can be appropriated to splash water on unsuspecting parents or chasing after friends.

All it takes to have fun and keep cool in the summertime is the joy of summertime and some cool, refreshing water to play in,options and ideas are limited only by imagination.
