Summit Eating Disorders and Outreach Program Expands Services and Moves to New Facility, Also in Sacramento
Summit Eating Disorders and Outreach Program is pleased to be opening its doors at its new location, 3610 American River Drive, Suite 140, in Sacramento.
Summit is a medically supervised, comprehensive treatment program in serving adults and adolescents with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. The new location will allow Summit, which has been serving patients in the Sacramento area and beyond for more than 10 years, to expand its services and provide an environment that is conducive to healing the mind, body and spirit.
One of the expanded services that Summit will now provide is a family-based treatment method (also known as the Maudsley Approach) for adolescents with anorexia. Typically, anorexia is treated in inpatient and residential treatment facilities which require patients to live away from their families.
Although treatment in these facilities is usually successful, the rate of relapse once patients leave and return home is high. Researchers have found that for some patients suffering from anorexia the inclusion of their families in the treatment process greatly contributes to their recovery.
The family-based treatment approach utilizes the parents and family as active participants in the restoration of the patient's weight and physical health. This treatment approach has been found to be very effective for those patients who have had anorexia for less than 3 years. At the end of treatment approximately two thirds of patients are restored to a healthy weight, and, impressively, five years later 75 - 90 percent of patients remain fully weight recovered.
Summit will now offer family-based treatment for adolescents between the ages of 13-17 years old who suffer from anorexia nervosa. For more information about all of Summit's services, including family-based treatment, please contact Summit. For more information and a phone number, visit Summit's website.
