One thing we may not understand is that UVA and UVB radiation levels are highest on cloudless days, but dangerous levels can still be maintained even on very cloudy days. Even if you're on the golf course with complete cloud cover overhead and you've got about an hour to play before the sky opens up, guess what, you are still getting massive levels of the sun's radiation hitting your skin. Once it penetrates the outer and inner layers of skin, your risk of sunburn and skin cancer increases. The best way to avoid this is to apply sunscreen all over before heading outside and wearing clothing which helps protect your skin from the UVA/UVB rays. Additionally, since more men are probably working outdoors in the heat, keep in mind that UV radiation also reflects off surfaces to increase your risk of damage from the sun. If you spend a good deal of time standing outdoors on concrete, you raise the effects of sun damage by 30%. You may think you're safe if you're up north skiing somewhere, but the sad news is that the harmful effects of the sun are raised by about 80%.
If you would like to take advantage of the extra protection that sun protection clothing can offer then check out the following sites to find a great selection of attractive apparel to wear all year round.
Sungrubbies.com is one such place that offers this type of clothing for men. They have a great crew-neck, long-sleeved t-shirt which is lightweight and protects you against 98% of the UV rays. If you buy three or more of these shirts, they only cost about $16.00 each, but are not recommended for getting wet which will lessen its effectiveness due to the fibers. You can also find some great polo shirts here, with long sleeves and collars so you can get on any golf course and still be cool and protected. They do carry a selection of shirts that are suitable for wearing when you plan on getting wet. Don't forget a pair of pants such as the cargo slacks for about $50. You can be safe and look good while enjoying your favorite outdoor sport.
One other place I would look at is shadyladyproducts.com which goes even a step further to offer clothing protection from the sun. Here you will even find sleeves and gloves to protect your arms and hands while your driving. Think that's a bit ridiculous? Glass certainly reduces the chance of sunburn, but does not prevent the long-term damage of the UV rays hitting your skin through that window. This site also offers hats, glasses, jackets and shelters.
