Sun Splash Park: The Best Oceanside Park for Children in Daytona Beach, Florida

Linda Stamberger
When taking a trip to Daytona Beach, it is often difficult to know which beach may suit the entire family, from the smallest of children to the middle and older siblings. At the Sun Splash Park in Daytona Beach, there is something for everyone.

Sun Splash Park is the best park/beach for families to take the little ones, especially if they are too small to go into the ocean. Water parks are usually full of crowds, rowdy teens and older children. At Sun Splash Park in Daytona Beach, parents have easy access to the popular boardwalk, which consists of a splashy playground, full of water park type amenities, yet in one convenient location, on the glorious Atlantic Ocean.

The little kids have a ball at Sun Splash, laughing with delight at the interactive water fountain, sea-themed walkways and décor, including the day-glow green fish atop poles along the boardwalk and ramp walkway leading to the beach. There are volleyball nets, so the big kids and adults can play, picnic areas and restrooms, not to mention outdoor showers to rinse the sand off from the beach.

This is a popular spot for families in Daytona, for there is so much for everyone to see and do. The ocean areas are heavily populated, so the lifeguards are on duty. If you want to bring your little one into the ocean, swim where the lifeguard station is situated. The park is a nice alternative, for sometimes little children become skittish in the big waves, and Sun Splash Park is total kid fun.

The name of the park fits the atmosphere completely, for on the sunniest of days, the clear water from the fountain combines with the sun streaming through the puffy white clouds, and makes the area look like a mini paradise.

There are a lot of people on the boardwalk, not just families, so it is a good idea to bring a lawn chair with you to sit and watch your children, in case there are no benches available due to crowds. If you want to stand in the fountain and play with your children too, that's also encouraged. Many families with kids of all ages enjoy this part of the park, and to simply sit near the fountains on one of the stone benches and chat with other parents. Many of the adults are swimsuit ready, and its nice to watch people bonding with their children in such a fun environment. The sea air is invigorating, and the little kids shouldn't feel like they are missing out on a thing by not going into the ocean. At Sun Splash Park, parents know at least their little ones can have fun too!

The park is four acres, and located at 611 S. Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach. It is open from sunrise to sunset and admission is free.
