The very first thing you do if you notice sunburn on your child is to get them out of the sun. Sunburn can cause rawness of your skin, blistering, dehydration and sunstroke and must be treated immediately. I am a eclectic celtic witch and writer of several books (including aromatherapy & herbalism on amazon); here is how you treat children for sunburn using natural cures.
SUNBURN - AROMATHERAPY RECIPES/REMEDIES:
CHILDREN:
If your child is frequently out in the sun this can lead to skin cancer. With the ozone layer diminishing, sunburn, skin cancer and premature skin aging. You, as a parent, must take responsibility for ensuring that your child is properly protected with sun lotion with the appropriate protection factor and limit your childs time exposure in sunlight.
However, if your infant has sunburn then it is time for you to take immediate action as follows:
Mild sunburn:
This is when your child has widespread mild sunburn (pink color) you can use Chamomile Essential oil in a bath. Place 6 drops into a tepid bath and let your child sit for as long as possible. If the sunburn is more localized, apply 5 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil into a bowl of tepid water and dab directly onto the area effected.
Sunburn:
If the sunburn is more severe then you can use Lavender Essential Oil and use as above. If your child has blistering then apply the Lavender Oil neat (undiluted) directly onto the area taking great care not to inflict further pain.
Severe Sunburn:
Sunstroke and dehydration can be fatal. Take your infant to your Doctor immediately or to your nearest hospital.
AFTERCARE:
Essential Oils Lavender, Chamomile or Rose can be diluted with 1 teaspoon of Sweet Almond Oil to 1 drop of essential oil and this stops your skin from becoming old looking or leathery from sun damage. Massage gently into skin twice daily.
