Suncoast Hotel Offers Holiday Entertainment with a Difference

You'll see it a mile away. Literally. The Suncoast Casino and Entertainment complex on Durban's Golden Mile illuminates the night sky with brightly coloured neon lighting that attracts gamblers, moviegoers, theatre fans and diners like moths to a flame.

It's busy and vibrant, like similarly successful venues around the world. During the day the restaurants are full of locals and Suncoast hotel guests coming off or heading on to the beach, getting a bit of retail therapy, or hoping for a winning streak at the casino.

The complex incorporates the Suncoast Hotel & Towers, which looks on to Durban's Battery Beach, a popular surfing spot. It's at the northern end of the famous Golden Mile, looking onto some equally well-known beaches that have become trendier since these developments were completed. The Suncoast hotel sundeck hosts concerts, competitions and even weekly yoga sessions while the Suncoast hotel amphitheatre, which leads off the boardwalk, provides a showcase for local jazz talent.

On the upper level of the entertainment complex, Cafe Wacca Matta is the perfect place for a party. Sip a cocktail on the deck overlooking the ocean, and use it to cool off between dances in the humid Durban summer. Another drawcard at this venue is the choreographed dancing on the bar as per the concept popularised by the movie, Coyote Ugly.

East Coast Radio broadcasts from inside the complex and members of the public enjoy watching the DJs at work.

The King's Park Sporting Precinct, where the Moses Mabhida Stadium is located, is a few minutes' drive away as is Blue Lagoon Park, on the south bank of the uMngeni River Estuary. The estuary is a natural heritage site that plays a critical role in sustaining offshore fisheries. The birdlife is amazing and includes the rare great white and pink-backed pelicans and other migratory species.

It now incorporates a Green Hub that promotes eco-tourism and environmentally sustainable living.
