Free Verse on Sunday

ILAKKUVANAR MARAIMALAI
Sunday

Human machines find time
To overhaul themselves;
Two-legged animals
Continuously running for six days
Are compelled to take rest
In cement cages called apartments;
Theatres are jam-packed;
Hotels, Beach-resorts,
And all tourist centers
Attract more customers;
Children whose parents
They were unable to see
All the past six days
Now get a chance
To have a glimpse of them;
Poor Housewives!
They will have to work
Overtime without any incentive!
Some may sleep
Some may play and
Some other persons
May read all the journals
They were unable to read in
Their work-spots;
Some may browse and
Some may blog;
But one thing certain
Those who have no earnings
Who live below the poverty line
Can not take rest;
Everyday is a dark day to them;
At least on Sundays
Let us sit a while
To think about them
And try our best to remove
The gap between
The haves and have-nots;
How to do?
What to do?
You have to show the way.

    WOW !!...I really enjoyed the meaning here !!...we do find ourselves running around more like a "machine" than a "human" sometimes....Excellent Poetry !!!

    This is soooo true! I really like this poem, because I know how it feels to be a human machine, as you say, and what it is like to live in an apartment cage! This really makes alot of sense and you put across your point so well! Great job on this!!!!!
