Every day is fun day in Hollywood Beach, Florida. But because those of us who live in Hollywood have to work for a living too, Sunday seems to be the one day everybody decides to chill and have some fun.

A Day At South Florida's Most Beautiful Fun-Filled Beach

Imagine a 7 mile long palm fringed. white sandy beach with some of the clearest azure ocean waters you've ever seen ... and plenty of things to see and do ... all within just a few yards of the beach. That's the major attraction of spending Sunday on Hollywood Beach. Most people come to the beach Sunday morning and spend the entire day.

The Hollywood Beach "Broadwalk" ... it's not called a boardwalk because it's paved and doesn't have any wooden boards ... is dotted with dozens of small restaurants and bars where you can get a gourmet meal ... any ethnic cuisine imaginable ... or just a pizza, ice cream or an ice cold beer.

Many of the smaller restaurants offer "breakfast specials" where you can get eggs bacon, toast and coffee for under $5. But for a real breakfast treat, stop by Sugar Reef, for one of the best omelets you've ever eaten.

Sugar Reef is a popular French Caribbean style gourmet restaurant popular with locals and visitors alike for lunch and dinner. But on Sundays, breakfast and brunch rule with one of the largest omelet menus around. It's basically a "design your own omelet" deal where you can choose from dozen of ingredients ranging from the usual onions, peppers and sausages to the more exotic like caviar, goat cheese, portobello mushrooms and jerk chicken. The restaurant offers inside air-conditioned tables with ocean view and outside tables as well. Wine and beer are available ... including "Le Fin de Monde" (literal translation "end of the world") ... an over-proof imported beer. The food is incredible, the ambiance casual and tropical and the service is excellent. Casual dress is always in style.

Up the Broadwalk is the Hollywood Beach's most popular place to eat and drink ... O'Malley's Oceanfront Bar and Grill. This tropical open-air restaurant with it's giant "thatched hut" style bar and restaurant and outdoor patio seating is jumping on Sundays from late morning until after midnight. O'Malley's is noted for it's great seafood, burgers and salads along with a number of "pub grub" favorites including nachos. You can get any cool tropical drink you choose along with a large selection of domestic and imported beers on tap. On Sunday afternoons and evenings, there's usually live music and very often karaoke. There's also a dozen TV sets in the bar area, each tuned to a different football, basketball or baseball game.

The Broadwalk is a great place to cycle, roller blade, ride a peddled go cart or beach surrey, or simply stroll, people watch and enjoy the sunshine and salt air. There are also plenty of small shops and boutiques selling clothing, sunglasses, beachwear, shoes and sandals, cosmetics and sundries. You'll even find a place to get your hair done or have a relaxing massage.

And of course, there's the beautiful, soft, white, sandy beach. Most locals bring the family, a beach umbrella, some blankets and towels and plenty of food and drink. There are also cabana-style beach loungers with sun and wind covers that can be rented for a nominal fee.

The Hollywood Beach Bandstand is also a popular gathering place on Sundays for visitors and locals alike. In the early evenings throughout the year, there are regularly scheduled concerts featuring a variety of music including jazz, oldies, country, R&B, Hip Hop, Rap and even Swing. All are free and are usually publicized in local papers a week or so in advance

On the Intracoastal Waterway across A1A (aka Ocean Drive) is Billy's Stone Crab Restaurant . This popular restaurant is known for it's stone crabs and other fresh seafood. Billy's serves great drinks too ... including hefty martinis. Prices are a little hefty but the food and drink are well worth it. It's a popular hangout for dinner on Sundays and throughout the week.

Golf Is A Favorite Fun Day Activity

The City of Hollywood probably has more golf courses per capita than any other city in the world. Right up the road from the beach are three popular local golf courses, the Diplomat Golf Club, The Hollywood Beach Golf Club and the Eco Golf Club ... all of which are open to the general public. The Diplomat Golf Club is one of the local favorites since it also has a spa, restaurant and a great 19th hole bar to stop off and relax.

Casino Action Is Fast and Furious

When the sun gets too much, many people head to one of three nearby casinos ... the Mardi Gras Casino, just off US 1 in Hallandale, Gulfstream Park just down the road on US 1 or the Seminole Hard Rock Casino on Stirling Road and Route 441 in Hollywood. All offer non-stop action 24/7. In addition to gaming, Gulfstream Park has it's own shopping village with several fine restaurants and a number of fashionable boutiques. If you're looking for concerts, shows and club action too, the Seminole Hard Rock Casino is your best bet.

Sunday Is Fun Day Night and Day

Although Hollywood Beach is small compared to Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale Beach ... and much more funky and laid back ... there's always something happening day and night. That's why for the money, it's one of the best family travel and entertainment bargains around.
