Sunday Reflections- Three Part Harmony- Part III

Amazing Grace- the Bus Ride Home Part III

Loraine Alkire
Part 1 And Part II
Sunday after twelve hours of sleep, I felt good and the day just got better. I am so fortunate to have such good friends as my dear Sara and her husband Randy. Randy decided not to go to church, he revealed he really only enjoys going when Pastor Mike is going to be doing most of the talking- that and there was football to catch up on. Randy stayed home and Sara and I went to church. The service was great and the first thing I read from the bundle of material on my seat was so apropos it made me giggle. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Phil 4:6

After church, we went back to Sara's house. Instead of dining on Popeye's or Jr. Burrito, they fed me a lavish lunch of grilled lobster, grilled asparagus, roasted elephant garlic, and sesame pasta with a great little zinfandel. We laughed and chatted on the patio enjoying every moment. They topped lunch off with red velvet cake and coffee. Randy had prepared all of it himself.

Then Sara thought it would be nice to go out on the boat (what different world's we live in today) Randy took us out on the boat to the seal buoy where once, when I lived near the beach, I could smell the salt air as I fell asleep and hear the bells and seals bark from that same buoy. I love seals; to me they are like lazy dogs with flippers.

Sara had a new camera and experimented with it on me and the open water, the seals, the gulls and the birds. We passed a point that weakened my heart for just a moment, for I would not let the past settle in on the here and now. I saw my boyfriend and myself from many years ago, at a point on the harbor where we had gone a couple of times to see the fireworks on Fourth of July. I was standing in the arms of my love while he kept me warm with his arms as we watched the fireworks just beyond the barge. A sweet memory but one I did not linger on, choosing instead to enjoy the present, the here and now of my friendship, the boat, the seals, the excitement of the water as it became rocky when we headed out just a little past the barge. I was full of zeal. We laughed at this seal and at the gull and Sara remarked on the joy in my face.

Sara was happy to have me share the day with her, it brought a tear to my eyes. Someone loves me on this earth. I have a friend that delights in my friendship, not a one-sided friendship, but joy equally shared between us in our times together or apart.

Seven hours later, I was on my way home on the bus, back to my humble but beautiful cottage. It is not the beach; there is no boat slip two blocks away. Nevertheless, it is a peaceful place, it is home and it makes me happy.I spent .50 cents on travel plus one small-undisclosed amount to the church basket. I felt like the richest woman on earth; rich with friends, rich with Jesus in my heart, rich for seeing dozens of lazy seals sunning, piled on top of each other, to see the many boats and smell the sea air again, to see my beloved town from the waters view. To laugh with joy, perhaps is as close as we come to heaven here on earth. To love and be loved the greatest treasure.x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0xx0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0xx0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x

You are rich in friends, and obviously, they are enriched by your friendship.

Prosperity comes in many forms; good friends are one of those. Good account of a turnaround in your attitude, most of which was completely unrelated to your finances!
