Sunday School Easter Crafts

Gather a few materials you probably already have in your home and make some cute, Easter crafts with your children or for the kids at your church. These make cute decorations for the classroom and lasting mementos of an important religious holiday.

Stained-Glass Cross

This is a beautiful craft for older children to make during an Easter Sunday School session. You will need some black poster board, old newspaper, white tissue paper, a plastic spray bottle, water, food coloring, and string.

Cut out a cross from a piece of black poster board. Use some shape punches or scissors to cut out pretty shapes in the cross. Cover your work surface with some sheets of old newspaper. Put some white tissue paper, bigger than the cross, on top of the newspaper. Use the spray bottle to moisten the tissue paper with a fine mist of water, making it damp. Sprinkle a few drops of food coloring on the tissue paper and let it dry. Put a thin layer of glue on one side of the cross and lay it on the tissue paper. Trim the edges. Punch a hole at the top and attach and string. Hang the cross in a sunny window.

Eggshell Mosaic

Use some eggshells and paper or cardboard to make a mosaic relating to Bible studies. Make some hard-boiled dyed eggs and break the shells into small pieces. Draw a design onto the paper or cardboard, (cross, dove, bible), and glue the colorful shell pieces onto it. You can also use a pre-made drawing from a Sunday School magazine or book. Glue the pieces onto the design and hang up your design or give it a loved one for this sacred holiday.

Bookmark

Recycle a Styrofoam tray, some gift wrap and yarn, to make an Easter bookmark for your Bible.

First, draw a cross on an old styrofoam tray and cut it out. Trace the cross two times onto pretty wrapping paper. Cut them out and glue them to each side of the Styrofoam cross. Make a hole in the bottom of the cross with a hole punch. Braid together three 20-inch lengths of yarn. Knot together the top and bottom of the braid to form a loop. Push the center of the braid loop through the hole in the cross. Bring the knotted ends up through the loop and pull them tightly. Put the bookmark in your Bible at your favorite verse!
