Sunday's Fantasy Football Stars

Fantasy Football Heroes from the First Sunday of the 2010 NFL Season

Adam Sparks
Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts QB

Manning attempted a staggering 57 passes, completing 40 of them for 433 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked twice.

Arian Foster, Houston Texans RB

Houston's new starting running back stole the show in Week 1, carrying the ball 33 times for 231 yards and three touchdowns, and grabbing one reception for seven yards.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots QB

What car crash? Brady came out two days after he was in an automobile accident and completed 25-of-35 passes for 258 yards and three TDs.

David Garrard, Jacksonville Jaguars QB

Garrard only attempted 21 passes, but he completed 16 of them for 170 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 10 rushing yards and was sacked once.

Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks QB

Hasselbeck was among the fantasy football surprises on Sunday, going 18-for-23 for 170 yards and two TDs with one interception and one sack. He also rushed for a TD.

Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals QB

Palmer and the Bengals fell behind early, forcing the team to go to the air, a good thing for fantasy managers, as Palmer put up 345 yards and two TDs on 34-of-50 passing. He was sacked once and threw one pick.

Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants WR

Nicks caught three touchdown passes from Eli Manning, finishing with four total receptions for 75 yards.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans RB

The self-described best running back in the NFL was second-best on Sunday, finishing with 142 yards and two touchdowns, and catching four passes for eight yards.

Matt Forte, Chicago Bears RB

I anticipated a rebound season for Forte, but I didn't figure his biggest fantasy impact would come as a receiver. Forte rushed for 50 yards, but, more importantly, caught seven passes for 151 yards and two TDs.

Vince Young, Tennessee Titans QB

Young was an efficient 13-for-17 for 154 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 30 yards and was sacked twice.

Wes Welker, New England Patriots WR

Any concern over whether Welker's knee was healed were answered Sunday, as the receiver caught eight passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati Bengals WR

The Ocho caught 12 Carson Palmer passes for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Austin Collie, Indianapolis Colts WR

Collie caught 10 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers RB

Mendenhall rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown - including the game-winning touchdown run from 50 yards out in overtime - and caught two passes for 15 yards.

Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys WR

Austin caught nine passes from QB Tony Romo for 116 yards and a TD.
