Sunlight Mountain Resort, Colorado: How to get there
Finding Sunlight Mountain Resort can be difficult if you do not know exactly where to turn off. Located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, it is not visible from the road on either I-70 or Route 82. In the early days of Sunlight Mountain Resort, the first ski hill was known as Holiday Hill and the ski lift was a rope pulled by an old 1930s Buick automobile. The old car is still on site at Sunlight Mountain, resting among the trees to the side of the ski slopes. One look at this old artifact reminds visitors just how far Sunlight Mountain Resort has come during its decades of existence.

Sunlight Mountain Resort is a great place for novices or children to learn how to ski or snowboard. The beginner slopes are wide and offer terrain that is easy to learn on. There is an on-site day care facility so families with very small children can still enjoy a day at the resort without having to find a babysitter. Ski and snowboard instruction is also provided at Sunlight Mountain Resort. Besides the traditional sport-specific classes, the resort also offers safety and emergency information like avalanche rescue, complete with full demonstration by emergency workers and their dogs.

For more advanced skiers, there are a variety of trails at Sunlight Mountain Resort in Colorado. Each trail has a different level of difficulty, all the way up to the challenging double-diamond rating. The Heathen trail is the steepest chairlift-served ski slope in the entire state of Colorado, with a 52% grade. Skiers preferring a more relaxed ride will enjoy the wide Ute Trail. This trail is one of Sunlight Mountain Resort's most scenic slopes, with large rollers and a two and a half mile long gentle grade.
