There were a few players who really impressed me. This was the first time I have seen Mike Wallace of Pittsburgh play all year. The guy can flat out fly. Jordy Nelson dropped a few passes but he reminded me of an up and coming Wes Welker. I look for him to really develop over the next few years, assuming we have the next few years. Aaron Rodgers is a gamer, enough said.
Do the Green Bay wide receivers know how to catch a ball? I think the official drop pass number was somewhere around 5 but Jones and Nelson both dropped passes that might have been touchdowns. I know Pittsburgh was a missing a few key guys but it seemed like Green Bay was going to be playing with their 2nd team defense after watching so many players on that side of the ball walk of the field near the end of the first half. If the Green Bay receivers had caught a few passes and Charles Woodson had not been sidelined in the 2nd half this might have been a 20 point game. With that being said, Roethlisberger overthrew Mike Wallace on what should have been a for sure touchdown late in the game.
Here are some other thoughts. Mike Tomlin really impresses me. I have no idea what he is like personally but I think I would have no problem with him coaching my (hopefully) future sons. He seems to have some character.
Brett who??? As if this season could get any worse, Brett Favre has now been officially erased from all Packers fans memories. The announcers were quick to point out that Rodgers now has as many Super Bowls and more Super Bowl MVP trophies than Favre. I was watching the game with a guy who said, "Maybe that will inspire Brett to come back for one more season. The NFL is just better with Brett Favre." I agree with that statement. The fact that Favre played close to 20 seasons and only has one Super Bowl ring shows just how difficult it is to win a Super Bowl.
Finally, I really enjoyed the halftime show. None of their voices sounded great and Fergie's voice sounded very bad but overall I found it very entertaining. The addition of Usher and Slash made up for some of the negatives. I did not really like any of the commercials. I did not pay extremely close attention to them but nothing really stood out. The people I watched the game with really enjoyed the car commercial with Darth Vader but I was doing something else and missed most of it. The E*TRADE baby commercials were great and I absolutely loved the Chrysler commercial featuring Eminem. If I was from Detroit I would have been very proud and I would want to go out and buy a Chrysler.
The game was decent. The food I had was great and you cannot beat spending time with friends and family. Here is to hoping that there is an NFL season starting in a little under seven months.
