Super Bowl 2011 Prediction: Can Falcons Make It?

Nick Meyer
The Atlanta Falcons are the top Super Bowl 2011 contender from the NFC at this point in time, but they don't deserve that status despite their recent top wins over Baltimore and Green Bay.

While they are a legit contender, they still have a lot of work to do. Matt Ryan is a fine QB but he's still a young one right now, and Atlanta hasn't seen how he will respond during a deep playoff run.

The Falcons also have a couple weaknesses that are just begging to be exploited on the road to Super Bowl 2011, which looks bumpy right now.

Most of their defense is also not playoff tested while fellow contenders like Green Bay and New Orleans have been through many more wars.

Specifically speaking, the pass defense is very weak, ranking 26th in the NFL at this point in time.

With the Falcons expected to face dynamite passing attacks throughout the playoffs in teams like the Saints, Eagles, and Packers, their pass defense could easily do them in during the NFL's second season.

While Ryan is a great game manager and an efficient QB, he is not likely going to be able to overcome the pass defense woes en route to a potential Super Bowl 2011 bid unless things get better in a hurry for Atlanta heading into the playoffs.

I wish the Falcons would have made it. I wanted them to battle it out with the Saints. The Falcons need some kind of recognition in sports because they aren't getting it through basketball. It's already Superbowl Sunday and unfortunately the Falcons didn't make it. I hope the Packers win. I can't wait to see what this game will bring. It will definitely be brutal, snow & rain in Dallas, geesh. I work and subscribe to DISH Network so I am going to be watching the game on my Logitech Revue with DISH Network so I can watch and tweet at the same time. It's only $179 if you buy it through DISH Network, which is a $120 savings. Anywho, GO PACKERS!

Atlanta Falcons are getting a lot of publicity. Unless Atlanta plans on falling off the horse over the course of these last four games of the year, it knows that it will be the top seed on the NFC side of the playoffs. QB Matt Ryan is an MVP candidate in his own right, but most important aren’t his numbers, but the fact that he has only lost one game in which he started at the Georgia Dome in his career. If someone has to beat Atlanta in the Peach State to get to the Super Bowl, we love our chances of the men in black and red getting back to the big game for the second time in franchise history.

Nick Meyer obviously has no clue what he's talking about. Falcons has proved themselves time after time. They can't prove themselves on the road? I do believe they swept all of their road games over the past 3 games. Fellow contenders Green Bay and New Orleans? They beat both of them! 8 wins in a row. New orleans and panthers will make it 10. Monday night they are going to show the world that everyone WILL see them in the super bowl.

Pff, yahoo should hire me to write these articles.

I agree Scott, seems like everyone keeps doubting the falcons, yet week in week out they keep winning. its frustrating to see people so quick to write them off even though they have been playing great football all season.

When is everyone going to give the Falcons the credit they are due. Everyone keeps saying if they beat the next tem and they keep doing it. Even on the road.
