Green Bay Packers (-2.5) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers O/U 44.5
Super Bowl 45 features two teams with great defenses and very good quarterbacks. The Packers have won three straight road games to get into the Super Bowl, while the Steelers have won back to back home games against the Ravens and Jets. The Packers have defied all doubters and are now the favorite against the more experienced and proven Pittsburgh Steelers with a quarterback who has already won two Super Bowls. Here is the case for each team.
Case for the Steelers: The Steelers have the best rush defense, allowing only 62.8 yards on the ground per game. Their pass defense is 12th, but they have big play ability with Polamalu in the secondary. They have a balanced offense ranking 14th and 11th in passing and rushing respectively. Roethlisberger has been here before and this is a proven veteran team that almost always finds a way to win. This team does not display many weaknesses and can comeback from a large deficit as they showed against the Ravens in the Divisional round of the playoffs.
Main Strength: Rush defense
Main Weakness: Punt Returns, not a huge weakness, but far below league average.
Case for the Packers: The Packers are 5th in passing and 5th in pass defense. Their rushing and rush defense are two of their weaknesses. The Packers are 24th in the league in rushing, with just over 100 yards a game. Their rush defense is solid but not great, allowing 114.9 yards per game which is 18th in the league. Aaron Rodgers has been a beast for the Packers and the main reason they are in this situation. Rushing will need to improve to keep the Pittsburgh secondary guessing. The Packers have the momentum going into this game.
Main Strength: Aaron Rodgers
Main Weakness: Special Teams: Fumbles returning, allowing touchdowns (Falcons scored kickoff return touchdown)
Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Green Bay Packers 17 (Pittsburgh Steelers +2.5, UNDER 44.5)
Although trends have indicated that games this postseason have been going over, teams have two weeks to prepare for this game and the defenses should be ready for anything. Don't think that having their defense rested and at full strength won't be a huge bonus for both of these teams. Expect a close game with Pittsburgh pulling out a late victory.
1st Half Lines: Packers (-1), O/U 22
Both teams will have their gameplan set and will not be prepared to make mistakes in the early going. Expect a slow and low scoring first half that is tied or has the Steelers up by a field goal.
Prediction: Steelers (+1), Under 22
