Super Bowl Ads

Planning a Super Bowl Ad Party

Elizabeth J. Baldwin
Okay, the last time I got excited by a football game was back in the sixties while I was in high school.

Super Bowl Sunday is a good day to go shopping as far as I'm concerned. Everybody else is home in front of their TV.

Still it would be fun to have a get together of some sort. It is this kind of thinking that has led to a new phenomenon, Super Bowl Ad parties.

Even I love to watch the ads that appear during the Super Bowl. Do I need to tell anyone that as a horsewoman the Clysdales are my favorites. I also have a love of Dalmatians so last year's ad with the Clysdale horse, Dalmatian dog and Rocky theme was my number one favorite of all time. Though the screaming squirrel wasn't bad.

The way to really enjoy the ads is to get like minded friends to join you.

Get the TV set so that you can fast forward through the football game to get to the ads. Set out the usual noshing snacks, which in my house are based on Tex-Mex goodies.

Minature tamales can be created by taking a regular tamale out of its husk and cutting it into thirds. Be sure and get all three types, beef, pork and chicken. Have small bowls available for each person to put dips of their choice in to avoid the infamous double-dipping.

The number one dip is still the old faithful Queso mixture of two pounds of Velveeta and two cans of Ro-Tel. I have to say after some experimenting don't try alternative brands. They just don't come out as well.

A mixture of refried beans and salsa will make another good dip. Plain salsa is good for anyone watching calories and fat. Baked tortilla chips will also help those who have to watch their fat intake.

Beer, soda and water should be iced down well before start time. We also have a good supply of limes and salt for the beer. Squeeze the lime into your beer add a bit of salt and enjoy the show as it foams wildly for a bit.

Before the party starts make sure there are designated drivers. Be especially good to the designated drivers and have special non-alcoholic drinks available for them. Some will be happy with their favorite soda and others will enjoy the non-alcoholic beers. Go the extra mile for these folks and everybody will have a safe and fun day.
