Super Bowl Champion Anthony Hargrove, a Saint from New Orleans, Fighting HIV in Swaziland

Anthony Hargrove and the New Orleans Saints are 2010 Super Bowl champs. Some of the Saints may be on their way to Disneyland, but not Hargrove. Hargrove and NFL players, Cornell Green of the Oakland Raiders, and George Foster of the Cleveland Browns, are going to Swaziland. Swaziland, sounds like an amusement park, but unfortunately it's far from the happiest place on earth.

The Kingdom of Swaziland is located in the southeastern region of Africa, and is smaller then the state of New Jersey. For such a small country, Swaziland has big problems. 26.1% of the adult population is HIV positive, and 50% of the adults in their 20's have the disease, which is the highest number in the world, and things are also bad for the youth, one in ten kids will not make it to age 30. The situation is so dire, some fear for the future of the nation. "They say that in 40 years the country won't even exist, that's how bad things are there." The country is in need of extreme help, enter Hargrove, Green, and Foster.

For Hargrove, the fight against HIV is a personal one, he lost his mother to complications from the disease, when he was just nine years old. During a difficult childhood, Hargrove found football. The way out of his troubled life was almost lost when he failed out of Georgia Tech. Hargrove didn't give up on football and kept working, and in 2004, he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams

Ultimately, Hargrove was unable to hold on to his dream. After a few failed drug tests he was suspended for the 2008 season. After being reinstated, Hargrove found it difficult to find a team willing to sign him. In the end, it was a group of Saints who got him back on the field.

Once upon a time Anthony Hargrove was one of those athletes, who didn't appreciate what he had, or respect the game he was fortunate enough to play. Now, after fighting to get his life back, the Super Bowl champion just needs to hold on to it. With his first year in New Orleans behind him, Hargrove is heading to Swaziland, to be a saint to people in desperate need of one.
