Super Bowl Chili

Hot Chili Can Heat Up the Game Party at Bit

Jay Braun
Americans like their football. We love our food just as much or more. The Super Bowl is the championship game of the previous year's football season. Even people who are not the biggest football plans watch this game and have a feast of the various foods. Many people will attend a party and enjoy the various foods that you will find there.

Chili is not popular at every Super Bowl party but I really like it. You also can eat it on hot dogs or put it on nachos. I will say first that I make this pretty hot and you may want to slightly alter the ingredients to your personal tastes.

Super Chili Southern Style

Ingredients:
Two pounds of lean hamburger
One pound of Bob Evans spicy sausage
Four green peppers diced
Two to four diced onions
Three large cans of tomatoes
Three cans of drained kidney beans
One can of tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste (I rarely use any salt or very little)
Six table spoons of chili powder
Two tablespoons of garlic powder
One teaspoon of cayenne pepper
One teaspoon of Sriracha hot sauce (can find most stores if not try an Asian supermarket)

The first thing you want to do if prepare you sausage and beef. I cook each separately. You want to brown it and then dice them up pretty good similar to what you would do with taco meat. After you cook the meat drain grease and set aside you will stir into the chili later. Next you want to put use a blender to blend the tomatoes, paste, and Sriracha hot sauce and dry spices. You then will put this sauce into a crock pot on low and put. After that you will put the vegetables and kidney beans into the pot followed by the meat. I typically simmer this for at least two to four hours on low. I usually stir every half hour or so. I really give it a good stir so the hot sauce and cayenne pepper get distributed through it and then serve. TO keep the chili from getting to watery I like to leave the lid just off enough so that too much steam does not build up.

I enjoy eating this in a bowl like chili should be, but it is also good on hot dogs if you are having them during the party. If you want it on nachos or fries that is another good use. Sometimes I will add extra meat and veggies and subtract the kidney beans for a little more thickness. Like I said this is very hot so you want someone to have a little taste before a real big one. It is also important to make sure the hot sauce and cayenne pepper is mixed very well into the sauce.

Enjoy and go teams.
