The reception to the group being named was a bit lukewarm this year, but they are certainly a unique and talented group in many peoples' eyes.
For the half-time show, they started out with their hit "I Gotta Feeling" with the popular chorus...."Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night..."
The group broke out the auto-tune for this one..it sounded decent live and the singing parts were solid. It's a good song, albeit a bit generic, and a solid choice for the Super Bowl XLV Halftime show.
But to be honest, the sound quality was a bit lacking during their halftime performance. And Fergie, the solo recording artist and one of the main members of the group, didn't sound too consistent or technical when it came to her parts.
Speaking of Fergie, she joined Guns N' Roses legendary guitarist Slash for a version of "Sweet Child O' Mine" but it wasn't a good combination once the initial surprise of the guest performance wore off.
Usher then came down and performed as well. The dance number he put on with the Peas was interesting but once again the singing and sound left a lot to be desired.
There was another dance number with a "Love" theme and a Tron-like vibe just before that one as well during the performance.
Overall, it was a Super Bowl XLV halftime show featuring the Black Eyed Peas that was high on glitz and had some star wattage behind it but left a little too much to be desired for those who are bigger fans of sound quality that dance numbers.
