Super Bowl Sunday draws folks together each winter for football-friendly fun. Sports fans, athletes and athletic supporters (so to speak) gather at Super Bowl parties for festive foods, congenial company and the NFL's biggest game of the year.

How to play Super Bowl Mad Libbers:

First, designate one person to serve as the scribe/reader for the game.

Without revealing the contents of the story, that person will call out the parts of speech (types of words) that are needed to fill out the story. As guests volunteer words, the scribe/reader will record them and fill in the blanks.

Once the story is complete, the scribe/reader will read the entire contents aloud.

Here is a sample Mad Libbers Story for a Super Bowl Sunday party (based on the general concept of the original "Mad Libs," by Phil. N. DeBlanks).

Super Bowl Mad Libbers Story

What a game! It wasn't even ____________ (adjective).

First, of course, ____________________ (name of a person in the room) performed his/her own rendition of "____________________________________" (song title).

Then came the ___________ (noun) toss and the kickoff. That's where the excitement began.

Right away, _________________ (name of a pro football player) ran past the ____________ (adjective) defense of the _______________________ (1^st team name), just like a ________________________ (type of vehicle), while the __________________ (plural noun) surrounded him like a wall of ____________________ (plural noun). He ran ________ (number) yards to score the first of _______ (number) touchdowns.

Next came a Super Bowl skirmish.

Obviously, ___________________ (name of a person in the room), the ________________ (job title) for the _________________ (2^nd team name), never knew what hit him. Just write up a football story, or adapt one from the newspaper. Block out several key football game words, and replace these with blanks. Indicate the parts of speech that will be needed to fill in the blanks (such as adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, nouns, pronouns, verbs and more).
