Super Bowl Movie Trailers for 2010

Nine Movies to Have Trailers

William Browning
Super Bowl commercials are so much a part of the game that advertisers will be forking over $2.8 million for a thirty second spot on the world's single most watched event on television in 2010. This year's advertising rates have actually dropped from the year before for only the second time in the history of the game. Here's a look at what movies that various studios have bought spots for this year's game in hopes of getting a larger share of the movie market. Advertising Age has a comprehensive list of the companies who have the gumption for Super Bowl commercials this year.

Universal Studios

Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro as Lawrence Talbot, a man bitten by destiny. Still recovering for the death of his mother at a young age, Talbot enters his own personal horror as he becomes a wolf creature during the full moon. Wolfman is released in February.

Robin Hood stars Russell Crowe as the legendary swashbuckler who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. Look for him to hit theaters in June. Will Crowe's star power be able to bring a new Robin Hood to a successful box office take?

Despicable Me continues a long line of 3-D animated films that have huge voice talent as the star. Steve Carrell plays a super villain with disastrous results as he tries to outdo the number one super villain. Funny man Carrell as a villain? Sounds like a winner to me.

Viacom/Paramount

Viacom/Paramount will be showing its brand new trailer for the much-anticipated The Last Airbender, out July 2. Paramount claims The Last Airbender could be Viacom's Harry Potter. Based upon the premiere of the new trailer during the Super Bowl, Paramount means business when it comes to their new blockbuster.

Shutter Island, with Leonardo DiCaprio, will be out in February. The plot revolves around a murder suspect who is presumably hiding on an island insane asylum. Just as Federal Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) gets closer to the case, a hurricane lets more insane criminals escape confinement.

Iron Man 2 is bound to be one of the year's biggest blockbusters. Robert Downey, Jr. returns and the cast is enhanced with Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson as more and more bad guys try to get their hands on Iron Man. This will be one of the last flicks to make Viacom money in the Marvel Comics franchise as Disney recently acquired the comic book empire's many viable enterprises.

Walt Disney

Tim Burton's twisted tales continue with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland due out in March. A perfect fit for the quirky director, Disney is making this new incarnation in eye popping 3-D in hopes that moviegoers will tumble down the rabbit hole.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character who teams up with a princess to try to stop a warlord from unleashing a gigantic sandstorm. Based up the visually stunning video game series, Prince of Persia is out in May.

Toy Story 3 will be Pixar's entrant into the Super Bowl advertising blitz. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks return as Buzz and Woody when a crisis looms in Andy's toy closet. It seems Andy has grown up and is going off to college. Coming out in June, this will probably be the final Toy Story movie.
