Super Bowl Party Games

I love to host super bowl parties for friends and family and have a lot of fun with it..

Of course the main event of the gathering is to watch the football game, but there are other activities you can include at your party to make the event more interesting, exciting and fun for all in attendance.

Super bowl games can entertain the old and young alike at any football game. Some games I like, and have played at past parties, that have been a success, are football trivia, football toss, "football" phrase game and a little popular money betting game called betting squares.

Football Trivia:

Before the party ask each individual attending to bring a football trivia question and have each person ask their question throughout the evening. The individual that answers the most questions correctly wins a prize, such as a football jersey / t-shirt, football logo cups, etc. (get creative with the prize gift).

When there are both adults and children in attendance I found the easiest way to play this to include both groups is to have a prize for the adult with the most answered questions and a prize for the child with the most answered questions.

"Football" Phrase Game:

For this game you could either buy and use individual mini footballs, or draw small footballs on construction paper, just as long as every person in attendance has one in their possession. Before the game begins you announce to everyone that they are not allowed to use the word "football" throughout the entire game. Whenever you hear an individual say the word "football" you take away their football and hold on to. If the individual has 2 or more footballs in possession from retrieving from someone else, you take all the footballs in possession. The person with the most footballs at the end of the game wins a prize. Again, this prize can be creative and relative of football, such as shirt, cup, pens, etc..

This game can be played by everyone in attendance.

"Football Toss"

This game I found popular among the children that are attendees of the super bowl party.

During half time take all the kiddos outdoors for a good old fashioned football toss. The individual that throws the ball the furthest wins the game and collects a prize. You can set up targets and separate the children between age groups and gender. The prize for this game can be more kid oriented and still related to football.

"Football Betting Squares"

This game is popular among adults and involves a little money to make the evening more exciting.

Create a grid on a poster board with the top of the board labeled with one football teams name (AFC Champs) and the side with the other teams name (NFC Champs). The grid should contain 10 squares across and 10 squares down. Pick a dollar amount that it would cost everyone, that would like to play, to purchase a square on the board. (you may have to limit the purchase of squares depending on the number of participants) For example: if you say $5 dollars a square, each person would pay 5 dollars for each square they want to purchase and write their name, initial or any symbol they would like to use on the board to show ownership of that square. After the board has been filled completely, randomly number the grid / squares 0-9 along the top and 0-9 along the side. This can be done by writing 0-9 on little squares of paper and pulling from a hat to randomly label the board.

The object of the game is to watch the football game and hope at the end of each quarter or the end of the game (however you decide to set up the game) the score matches your numbers and you win the cash prize.

The rules can be made up by the host as to whether the money can be divided between the 4 quarters, allowing more people to win or just have one big jackpot and one winner at the end of the game. How this is done; your initial is in a square that was labeled 7 across the top (AFC champs) and 4 along the side (NFC champs), your numbers are 7 and 4. How you might win money with these numbers, if the host determines their is a winner at the end of each quarter (my favorite way to play) if at the end of the first quarter the score is 7 for the AFC team and 14 for the NFC team (7-4) you win the money for that quarter. If neither team scores any more points in the second quarter, you again with the jackpot for the 2nd quarter and so forth to the end of the game. If in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter the score ends in a 7 and 4 you win again, ie; 17-24, etc... If the game is played where there is just one winner at the end of the game and the winner collects the entire jackpot determining the score at the end of the 4th quarter. Another interesting twist to this game is to divide the dollar amount between each quarter making the winning amount increase each quarter, of course this is all determined on the dollar amount you chose to sell the squares for and what the total amount in the jackpot equals before the game actually begins.

Happy Super bowl Celebration!
