Super Bowl Preview: Passing Game vs. Secondary

Chris Knight
There are many people who will be watching the Superbowl this Sunday. There will be tons of happiness, tons of disappointment, and almost everybody will be excited. It is the battle of the Giants passing recently heated passing attack versus the Patriots secondary. Also the Patriots will have probably the best passing attack in the history of the NFL as they stack up against the Giants this Super Bowl Sunday.

Eli Manning Vs. the Patriots Secondary
Eli Manning was the source of many New York Giant fans' jokes, criticisms, and heated discussions. Eli Manning's fortunes quickly changed when his New York Giants beat the Packers in a thrilling overtime victory. Kicker Tynes missed some earlier field goals which could have nullified Eli's efforts, however, when it came down to it; the "ghost" of Adam Vinateri came down and let the ball fly through the uprights in the snow.

Now Eli will be tested in order to beat the heated, undefeated Patriots. The great thing for Eli Manning is the simple fact that the defense is not as dominant as the offense. Not to say that the Patriot defense is weak, however, it is definitely overshadowed by the explosive offense as the Patriots. Eli Manning had 4 touchdowns and 1 INT last time he faced the Patriots, and he is going to carry the new found confidence into the Superbowl as we have a rematch and a decider of the championship. With the help of the tall, fast Plaxico Buress, as well as the supporting cast of Armani Toomer, Steve Smith, and others; the Giants should have a great deal of success. They also have a great running game to help compliment their passing game.

Prediction: Eli Manning should have an excellent time throwing agains the Patriots defense. The secondary hasn't been the strong suit of the Patriots, however, they are more than capable of not giving up the big play; which is what they will have to do in order to stop the Giants soar and score type attack.

Tom Brady Vs. the Giants Secondary
Tom Brady is a legend in today's football world. He will absolutely have a great game simply because he's Tom Brady. He's been consistent throughout his career in the playoffs ever since he first came into the league. He will continue to have success in the passing game, however, if he makes even a few mistakes; the speedy defensive backs like Demps and Aaron Ross will be sure to take full advantage. Also, cornerback Sam Madison has been known to have success against Tom Brady - so be sure to view that chess match.

The Patriots have Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Randy Moss has been shutdown the whole playoffs and the Patriots have still found a way to absolutely dominate on offense. All they have to do is keep playing mistake free football. The Patriots only throw what the defense gives them, so you can cast your doubts aside - Tom Brady will not make too many mistakes. The hidden name that many people overlook due to the success of Wes Welker and Randy Moss is Donte Stallworth. Stallworth is probably one of the top 5 fastest receivers in the NFL, and can torch a defense faster than the blink of Tom Coughlin's eye. Be sure to look for the left side matchup during the game.

Prediction: Tom Brady and his Patriot offense will have a relatively easy time getting past the Giants defense. The Giants are not going to stop Tom Brady, so it is important that they force some mistakes with their pro bowl defensive front four - and some complex blitzes.
