Snack Bowl Championship Series Dips

The Super Bowl is a great time to show off your snack savvy. More than just tasty this team of dips may win the snack bowl championship series for presentation. You will impress your salty snack loving crowd and the sweet tooth crew with this duo of game day dips.

Cream Cheese Dip: This is complicated so pay attention, take eight ounces of soften cream cheese and eight ounces of marshmallow cream. Stir the soften cream cheese and marshmallow cream together and blend well. You are done, just chill until game time.

To kick it up the game day, serve the dip in your team colors. Set aside one third plain white, mash in some strawberries or raspberries into a third for a reddish dip and blue berries into the last third for blue. This make a great tasting and fine looking tri-colored fruit dip tray. Surround with sliced pineapple, apple, cantaloupe and any other available fruit for a unique pre-game presentation.

Bean dips: Eight ounces soften cream cheese, eight ounces sour cream, one-15 ounce can beans, one package Lipton onion soup mix, two cups pepper jack or cheddar cheese grated, two teaspoons chili powder, six cloves finely diced garlic, milk to thin, about half a teaspoon of salt and a few shots of Dat'l Do It (about two teaspoons) or your favorite hot sauce.

This recipe actually requires using the stove. Using a regular pan, not Teflon coated pan, heat the beans and the diced garlic in a couple of teaspoons of oil. Canned beans are precooked so you just need to heat them to a light boil for about ten minutes. After heating take the beans off the heat and mash the heck out of them with a potato masher. Add a cup of grated cheese and mash some more. Add soup mix, seasoning, cream cheese, sour cream and blend well. Reserve one cup of cheese for garnish. Remember not to use Teflon coated pans. Note: I never drain beans. The liquid in the can is just fine in the dip. Add milk to adjust the thickness to a smooth, chip friendly consistency. About a quarter cup milk is all you may need.

I didn't specify the kind of bean to use for a reason. Pinto beans are the old standard for refried bean dips. For a tri-color display to match the fruit dip make three dips with black beans, red beans and white northern beans. When you are ready to serve, garnish each dip with the rest of the cheese. Don't be afraid to season each dip a little differently, curry for the white northern beans and Cajun seasoning for the red beans for example. It is your Super Bowl party after all, flavor it your way.

The bean dips freeze well so you can make it during the playoffs and have it ready for all the games. Bowl season is a great time to party. Show your creative side with this great dip line up that look as good as they taste.

P.S. I'm also making my public service announcement of the day which is that if you had a picture I'd rate and comment on it because photos can get separate ratings and comments. Lets help the photos get their justly deserved page views ;)
