Super Bowl Spinach-and-Strawberry Spiral and Spin Salad

Tangy Touchdown for Football Fans

Linda Ann Nickerson
This festive and colorful salad is ideal for a football party, tailgating event, picnic or any occasion. Simple to make, it looks elaborate and special.

Salad:

1 bags fresh spinach leaves
2 pints fresh strawberries

Dressing:

1 cup granulated sugar (or softened brown sugar)
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup vegetable oil (not olive oil)
1 teaspoon minced onion
1 cup vinegar
1 cup poppy seeds
1 cup sesame seeds

Mix all dressing ingredients, using an electric mixer or food processor. (Be sure to use the plastic blending tool, not the cutting blade, as it will destroy the seeds.)

Wash spinach. Whirr in lettuce-spinner, if you have one. (Or dry spinach leaves well with clean paper towels.)

Clean strawberries, and cut them into bite-sized pieces.

Arrange spinach leaves and strawberries in large glass bowl.

Toss with dressing immediately before serving. (Dressing can be made ahead and chilled until using. Also, leftover dressing may be refrigerated for future use.)
