Indianapolis is hosting Super Bowl XLVI. The city has gone all out to provide fans and visitors with an unforgettable experience for all, even those without tickets to the big game. The Zipline is one feature of Super Bowl Village that is drawing the most attention.
Provided by ZipTrek, a Canadian company, the 800 foot long zipline ride will thrill any brave enough to not only take the ride, but also climb the ten story tower to reach the starting point. This zipline is the longest temporary ride of its kind in the United States. I discussed the safety of the tower and the ride with Robert Wills, the structural engineer of record for this attraction. He explained the design that is utilized in the construction and maintenance of the system. Safety factors often are in play for the ride.
The first public use of the Zipline occurred on Friday. Handpicked high school students, dignitaries, local media personalities and the Indianapolis Colt's mascot "Blue" were among those who rode the line in the opening hours. Of considerable interest among local media was the 77 year old Grandma who also took the plunge, much to the surprise of her family.
Preorder tickets have been sold out for days. However, you can still purchase tickets at the main tower, on South Capital Ave. at the bridge. Tickets are reasonably priced at $10.00 each. Expect a rather long line, as this attraction is going to be one of the most popular in Super Bowl Village. The minimum weight for riders is 65 pounds and the maximum weight is 275 pounds. Oh, you also must be 6 years old or older to ride the Zipline. The Zipline will be open throughout the week leading up to game day, weather permitting. Check the Super Bowl Village website for details.
