Super Bowl XLII Predictions

Chris Wellmen
With the New England Patriots on the verge of becoming 19-0 and winning their 4th Super Bowl title, they are widely known as the best team in the NFL at this time. On January 20, the Patriots will be hosting the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship. I predict that this game will be a blowout with the Patriots coming out on top, giving them a berth to Super Bowl XLII.

On the NFC side, the Green Bay Packers host the New York Giant's in the NFC Championship game, also on Sunday. Like the AFC Championship, I predict that the Green Bay Packers will romp the Giants, giving them a Super Bowl berth.

If these predictions are accurate, then the New England Patriots would face the Green Bay Packers in a tough game. With a win, the New England Patriots would post a record of 19-0, an undefeated season. But with the Packers getting better each week, they seem to be able to stop the Patriots and win. The Packers, lead by quarterback Brett Favre, would be the underdogs in the game, but would be backed by numerous fans. Brett Favre is rumored to be retiring soon, as he has flirted with retirement for several years now. A Super Bowl win would cap off his Hall of Fame career with a great and emotional ending.

Everyone likes the underdog. How great would this season be if the near-perfect Patriots went 18-0, only to lose in the Super Bowl to the underdogs? The Green Bay Packers are a tight group of football players who deserve a Super Bowl ring. What better way to end this season?

A Packers-Patriots matchup in the Super Bowl would be a great and competitive game to watch. The Patriots would be given their chance to go undefeated, but would fall short to the glorious underdogs. Tom Brady and the Patriots will play their best game of the season while Brett Favre and the Packers play better. The enormously large Packers fan base hasn't tasted a true victory in quite a long, so they certainly are ready for a dramatic Super Bowl win. The most important question is, conversely, are the Patriots? If the group stays together and plays just as well next year, they may be able put together a perfect season next year, along with the seventh pick in the 2008 NFL Draft (acquired from San Francisco).

This year, on the other hand, victory goes to the Green Bay Packers.
