Super Bowl XLIII Delivers Great Football and Entertainment

Postgame Analysis of Super Bowl XLIII

Super Bowl XLIII victory mania has just started, especially in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania's beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, six-time Super Bowl champs, have once again showed greatness and strength. Ben Roethlisberger looked in control of the action and his Pittsburgh Steelers team. I can see Google burning up this morning with women checking if Ben Roethlisberger has a girlfriend.

Now, I have to admit that my husband and I are Washington Redskins fans. However, since it was clear many months ago that the Redskins had no shot at the Super Bowl 2009 we picked the next best thing. After all, being from Pennsylvania and cheering for Arizona Cardinals would be unacceptable.

We started our Super Bowl XLIII festivities by gathering up a close group of friends. All twelve adults and two kids gathered in our home with everyone pitching in to get food and drinks ready. Delicious Italian meatballs were made by yours truly, slow cooked most of the day to perfection. We also had Super Bowl must have food; chicken wings. There was macaroni and cheese served as well as hot dogs and different kinds of dip. Everyone brought different drinks, and we were all ready for our Super Bowl 2009 party.

My personal favorite Super Bowl XLIII moment had nothing to do with football. Jennifer Hudson's rendition of the national anthem knocked everyone's socks off. Her first public appearance since the death of her mother was expected to be great, but personally I found it to be stunning. I would not be surprised to hear that she lip-synched however. I noticed towards the end her lips did not match the words, but I can forgive this part due to emotional toll the past months have taken on her. I would hope that the 2009 Super Bowl performance for Jennifer Hudson brings her much positive publicity. She did a phenomenal job and should be complimented on it.

As a football fan, I also could not help but notice the amount of penalties called during Super Bowl 2009. I counted seven penalties for Pittsburgh Steelers and eleven penalties for Arizona Cardinals during Super Bowl XLIII. It looked as if the boys were there to play rough.

The half-time for Super Bowl XLIII was not that exciting for me. Somehow Bruce Springsteen seemed too old for the younger crowd our age and for the attendants of our Super Bowl party. Since the Janet Jackson debacle, Super Bowl organizers seem to be trying too hard to play it safe. I expect them to call in the Partridge Family for Super Bowl 2010. The only highlight of the half-time show is Bruce Springsteen plowing into the cameraman during "Born to Run". Someone should have called a personal foul on that, and on Bruce Springsteen saying "Step back from the guacamole dip," at the beginning of the performance.

To his credit, though, Bruce Springsteen did explain during the Super Bowl 2009 pre-show that this was all business and he has an album to promote. We just had to suffer through Bruce Springsteen's album promotion.

Santonio Holmes earned his MVP of Super Bowl XLIII. The drama was high at the end of the Super Bowl 2009, with only seconds left on the clock. For me, it was a nail biter, both because I do bite my nails and waiting for the exciting results of Pittsburgh Steelers winning the game. Roethlisberger delivered and proved that he can make great plays. He earned his Super Bowl 2009 ring in my book. Holmes clutched the ball and in the less than a minute wait for an official review the entire room of both hosts and the guests was yelling at the TV.

The entire room was pleased with Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl XLIII 2009, except one attendee. He is a Dallas Cowboys fan so we can all sympathize with his misery.

In all, Super Bowl 2009 proved to be a great game. Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers delivered in entertainment and great football. I sure expect Super Bowl 2009 football game to be considered a classic.

Well I thought last year's Super Bowl was better (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1442351/was_this_the_best_super_bowl_of_alltime.html?cat=14) but of course I am a Giants fan! Chicken wings are a must - as is chili - and if possible a party sub - and beer - and ...
