Super Bowl XXXIV: Memories of A Heartbreaking End

I can't seem to shake that memory from my head. Kevin Dyson stretching for the end zone as time expired. Well, he was one yard short, and I was one upset kid. The game couldn't have ended in a better fashion, but the subsequent result was the team that I had despised winning in dramatic fashion. This folks was the culmination of Super Bowl XXXIV, the most thrilling and entertaining Super Bowl that I have witnessed in my 20 years on this earth.

I only had to wait a week after the AFC championship game, where the Tennessee Titans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in a very convincing fashion, for this dream matchup. Myself, being from southeast Missouri had to constantly deal with the bombardment of St. Louis Rams merchandise and talk. The Rams seemed to be the talk of the town, and also the talk of my school. All of my fellow classmates were backing the St. Louis Rams, or "the greatest show on turf," while I had to be the one eyesore that everyone seemed to take notice of. These children were relentless. Everyday during that week leading up to the Super Bowl seemed to be a Tennessee Titans and Austin McConnell bashing fest. I didn't mind it much though, because I knew that I would have the last laugh when the Titans won the game.

I'm not quite sure if I have ever sat in one spot for three and a half hours, but this was the night where even a bathroom break could put a damper on my night. I was determined to watch every second of this telecast, even the much dreaded half time show. I stayed true to my intentions of not missing a second, and was quite disappointed with the end result.

The Titans after having a sluggish and unproductive first half made a comeback in the second half. I just knew that we would be able to pull this one out and take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. However, I began to get a little nervous after a 73 yard touchdown pass to Isaac Bruce. The Titans than began their drive down the field and with six seconds to go it was time for one last play. Most of us know what happened, so there is no need to relive the moment that my heart stopped for a few seconds.

Super Bowl XXXIV is the best Super Bowl I have ever seen. It was a great ending to a season that saw the Music City Miracle, a rise to stardom by a stock boy, and Dan Marino's last game. Some people may disagree, but this Super Bowl will live on in my memory forever.
