Super Bowl in New York

I basically want to respond to a few things that Mike Florio said in an article on the TSN website (NFL takes unacceptable risk with New York Super Bowl). Personally, I enjoy seeing large, rigid institutions take chances. I get so tired of the political correctness and the lack of risk taking that accompanies professional sports these days. To see an organization like the NFL mix it up and put the Super Bowl in the greatest city in the world despite the weather risks is somewhat refreshing.

Could the weather be a problem? Definitely. I was in New York city a few years ago and it was so cold it hurt to be outside. It literally hurt to be outside. There is a good chance the weather could be like that but that would probably make for some good memories. Florio discusses the "sandal wearers from California" who may not come prepared for the sub-zero conditions but in my opinion if you can afford a ticket to the Super Bowl surely you are savy enough to check Weather.com before heading out to the Big Apple.

Florio discuss how the NFL may be "pandering to the experience of the home viewer" with this decision and while I would much rather watch a Super Bowl in my own confines assuming that the temperature is 11 degrees it is still going to be an amazing experience for everybody within a 30 mile radius of New York. The press coverage is going to be off the charts. The festivities leading up to Sunday are going to be incredible. So while I agree with Florio regarding the home viewer statement I still do not feel to sorry for those who will be in attendance.

Finally, Florio says "the risk of a nightmare scenario outweighs the potential reward." I could not disagree more. As an amateur investor who has never actually done any investing I can say that everybody and their mom knows that the bigger the risk the bigger the reward and that statement is true for this Super Bowl. There is no question that this is a risky move but if the NFL pulls this off I think they should consider a Super Bowl in London next year. Okay, that might be taking things to fast.
