Super Clean Garage Sale with Cooler Stuff

West Des Moines is home to one of my favorite and fun shops, Calypso 968. Calypso 968 is on the upper West side of Valley West mall, located at 1551 Valley West drive. The mall itself has been around for about thirty years and is still a great place to walk around and shop. The shining point for this mall is not the anchor stores like Yonkers or JCPenneys. The actual reasons to visit this mall are the locally owned shops. Calypso 968 is one of those stores.

Calypso 968 has two local owners, and has been in business for around ten years. If you are lucky enough to chat with one of them you will know why, because they are friendly and helpful. They don't just ask how you are doing, they seem to genuinely care. In today's cookie cutter chain stores, customer empathy is hard to find. When you do get a dash of humanity with your receipt, it feels satisfying.

When you walk into Calypso you are almost overwhelmed. Nearly every available foot of floor space is covered. The thing that this store has is Everything. There are home furnishing, funky end tables and neat looking rugs. This store has over two hundred clocks but honestly, include all the watches and there might be three hundred time pieces in the place. There is a mix of kitchenware, from odd to useful, and all of it is quality. The back of the store has literally hundreds of things to set up a retro bar in your home. The list goes on and on. This store is a must see when you visit West Des Moines, it has everything you never knew you needed and more.
