Super Duper Summer Fun Fingerprint Art for Kids!

Beat the summer heat by making this fun and easy summer rain art project with your kids. This is a wonderful art project for camp, home, daycare, preschool, church, or school. All you need is a little bit of paint and art supplies to enjoy this fun art project together. All you need is art paper, Crayola blue finger paint, crayons or markers, brightly colored tissue paper, glue, scissors.

Have the kids draw a simple outdoor scene on the art paper (usually a blue or green pastel works well). The kids can draw a boy, girl, or family outside holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat. The figures can be in the city, in the country, or even at a circus or carnival. Keep the images simple and leave the sky blank.

Have the kids dip the tip of their pointer finger in the blue fingerpaint. Use the paint to dot little raindrops all over the image. Depending on the age of the kids, you can encourage the kids to use other fingers to make different sized drops of rain. Crayola finger paint cleans up easily with paper towels dipped in water or baby wipes. Be sure to have some handy to clean off little painted fingers.

Once the raindrops are completed in the summer rain picture, give the picture a little bit of time to dry. During this time, the children can cut or tear the colorful tissue paper. Glue the colorful tissue paper onto the raincoats and umbrellas of the figures in the summer rain picture.

Once the finger paint and glue is dry, you can use markers to color in details like the buttons on the raincoat, the handle of the umbrella, the figure's facial features, pets and animals, or outdoor plant life like roses, tulips, birds, and butterflies. For fun, you can add puffy cotton balls for clouds or strips of green paper for grass.

If you are at home, you can hang your child's fun summer rain painting onto the fridge or their room. A large "summer fun" bulletin board may be a great way to showcase the rain paintings in your preschool, daycare, church, or camp.

For a variation on this summer rain painting, you can encourage the kids to make a giant rain painting on one big piece of white or light blue poster board. Just be sure to have paper towels and baby wipes handy in case things get a little bit messy!
