Feeling the blues is more then a chemical imbalance in your brain. Many people that suffer from depression are treated for the lack of serotonin in their brain. Luckily, there is a simple cure that doesn't involve driving to the pharmacy to pick up your antidepressants. The cure lies in the kitchen. Research shows that a lack in nutrients could cause depression. Certain foods will give you a boost in your mood, which will help to ease the sad feelings. Eating a variety of healthy foods will also give you more energy to exercise, which will also help fight feelings of depression. If your battling the endless struggle to rid your blues, head over to the grocery store and fill your kart up with the following for the fall:

1. Wild Salmon could be called a miracle worker, for all the good things it does for your body. Everyone should eat at least 2 meals a week that include wild salmon so that they can prevent taking those unwanted trips to the doctor. I bet you didn't know that your brain is more than 60% fat. Wild Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is one of the most important ingredients in keeping a healthy brain. Our body cannot produce omega-3 fatty acids alone, therefore it is essential to include them in our diet. In order for your brain to keep your moods elevated it feeds on these fatty acids. Research has shown that the omega-3s could help aid in preventing depression .

3.With Halloween being right around the corner, adding pumpkin to your kitchen can be fun for the whole family. Pumpkin is a great source of folate. Folate is important in producing serotonin for your brain, and helps to maintain the production of new cells. Helping maintain your serotonin levels in the brain is essential to helping maintain healthy moods. Diet plays a key role in elevating your moods. There are many ways that you can enjoy eating pumpkin this fall. It doesn't have to be Thanksgiving to enjoy pumpkin pie. Cook a few pies, and store them in the freezer for an easy snack. Add roasted pumpkin slices to your favorite meal at dinner time. Pumpkin is also a great source of vitamin C, which will help boost your immunity and keep the whole family healthy. You can keep eating pumpkin long after Halloween and Thanksgiving are gone. Pumpkins will stay fresh in your refrigerator for up to 3 months!

2.Chickpeas are a great source of vitamin E, iron, zinc and fiber. This inexpensive, low calorie food should be in everyone's kitchen pantry. People that are lacking vitamin E have been linked to depression. In a predominately vegetarian culture, in India chickpeas are used in a variety of meals, as they make a great protein substitute for meat. Chickpeas may also help insulin levels in diabetics
