One of the best treatments for severely dry skin is not one you can buy at the local beauty supply store or drugstore, but rather, it is one you can make yourself in your very own kitchen. Using coconut oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, sesame and olive oils you can make an absolutely luxuriating and very effective skin hydrating body butter that will leave your skin smooth and supple for hours.
Coconut oil has long held the reputation for being high in saturated fats, minerals and vitamins which make it a very nutritious and hydrating skin softener. Cocoa butter, on the other hand, is sold in solid form and can create an effective barrier for your skin against the harsh elements as it coats your skin with a layer of truly protective moisture. When you mix the coconut oil and the cocoa butter you enhance the benefits of each and create a skin treatment that sounds good enough to eat!
With the addition of sesame oil which research has discovered to have its own natural sunscreen properties, and olive oil which is chock full of essential fatty acids, this coconut body butter is a literal buffet for dry, flaky, stressed out skin.
To make this sumptuous body butter all you will need is two teaspoons of water, two tablespoons of grated beeswax, a half cup of cocoa butter, four tablespoons of sesame seed oil, three tablespoons of coconut oil, and two tablespoons of olive oil.
With these ingredients at hand, place the water and the grated beeswax in a saucepan over low heat until the beeswax melts. Then you will want to add the cocoa butter and blend it in well with a spoon. Once the cocoa butter and beeswax are well mixed, slowly pour in the sesame seed oil, the coconut oil and then olive oil. Mix them well until the concoction is smooth and single colored. Pour the mixture into a glass jar or bowl and let it cool. Once the body butter has cooled it will be rather thick and you can go ahead and apply it to your dry spots or all over your body if you wish.
This all natural, chemical-free body butter will leave your skin baby soft and can be used as often as you like. If you are exposed to cold weather, harsh winds, or excessive heat, using this coconut body butter every night before bed will assure you that your skin will retain it's natural moisture balance. For especially dry hands and feet, try slathering them with body butter and then immediately covering your feet with socks and hands with cotton gloves before bed. This is as effective in softening your hands and feet as a paraffin treatment at your local nail salon.
Once again, Mother Nature works her magic by giving us these wonderful ingredients from her bounty to help heal and soothe our skin.
