The month of June is really active here in Louisville, with the Greek festival and the Waterside Festival both taking place then. The Waterside Festival is downtown at the Watertower and it features live music and arts and crafts in the family-friendly event. Call the festival managers at 800-626-5646 to inquire about the exact dates for this event. The Greek Festival is another outdoor celebration, this time with all sorts of delicious ethnic Greek food vendors and craftsmen, live bands, and dancing. It is one of the highlights of the beginning of the summer every year. Call the festival managers for information on the scheduling of this at the same phone number as well. These two events should be great family activities that anyone could attend.
The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival is one of the largest in the country and it takes place free for all every summer. This event is wonderful for any family for the sheer delight of these professional productions. It's rare that people who might not have any interest in a cultural event can now partake in this free event every year. The festival takes place in June on the grounds of Central Park in the Louisville Historic District-a perfect place for a grand event like this. Their schedule has not yet been completed, so please check back at the web site for that information or call 502-637-4933. You can also email them to have the schedule sent to you: info@kyshakes.org.
On August 2,3,4 and 5, the 38th Annual Streetrod Nationals will take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center. This is a Huge event that draws people from all over the country to display, race, and run. This is the World's biggest automotive event, and last year it drew more than 11,000 participants. This year the Festival will give away a 1933 Ford street rod "cabster" to one of the lucky participants. There will be a vintage swap, games for the youngsters, all sorts of food vendors and lots of great live music. This and the Shakespeare Festival are probably two of the largest and most popular public events that take place here. See the web site for details. http://www.nsra-usa.com/38annual.htm
