The game begins outside of the castle and the player is Yoshi. After going to the door of the castle, he is told that he needs a key, which a bunny has stolen. Once Yoshi chases down the bunny and gets the key, he can enter the castle. Head to the door on the left that has a star but does not have a number on it.

Bob-Omb Battlefield
Star One - Big Bob-Omb on the Summit
To get the first star in Super Mario 64 DS, you need to head to the top of the mountain. Dodge the large black cannon balls and once you get to a part of the mountain that has a whole in the wall, you can go in and stand for a moment, you will be taken to another whole in the wall but you are now closer to the top of the mountain.
To get the first star you need to defeat Big Bob-Omb. He will throw out small bombs at you, grab a bomb in your mouth and spit them back at him. If you aim just right, the bomb will explode and knock him down. Hit Big Bob-Omb three times to get the first star. Do not get to close or he will pick you up and throw you. Once he is defeated a star will appear, jump and touch the star. You will be taking out of the game and you just have to jump back into the painting to continue.
Star Two - Foot Race With Koopa The Quick
The only person who can race with Koopa the Quick is Mario. Look at your map and you will see a red cap with an M on it. Go there and take the cap from the goomba who is wearing it and then go find the turtle Koopa the Quick. You will be asked to race and once accepted, you have to race to the top of the mountain where you previously battled Big Bob-Omb. If you get there before Koopa the Quick, he will give you a star.
Star Three - 5 Silver Stars
Throughout the game you will be asked to find 5 silver stars to get your usual gold/yellow star. A quick look at the map will tell you where each star is located. Once you begin to collect the silver stars you have to avoid getting hit. If you are hit by anything, you will lose a star and will have to run around trying to catch it because they bounce around.
Silver Star #1 - Climb the tree closest to you and do a handstand for the silver star
Silver Star #2 - The chomp that was previously chained up is now racing around the stage. The next silver star is on his tail. You can try to chase him but it is best to learn his movement pattern and then wait until he passes to quickly get the star
Silver Star #3 - Cross the bridge that moves up and down when you step on it and kill the three goomba's. One of them will have the silver star.
Silver Star #4 - Up ahead in a circle of bushes, you will find the fourth silver star.
Silver Star #5 - The last star can be found with another group of goomba's.
Star Four - Big Bob-Omb's Revenge
Big Bob-Omb is mad because he was beaten so easily. He wants revenge and this time you have to play as Mario. Grab a red cap and head to the top of the mountain to face off against Big Bob-Omb again. Run around Big Bob-Omb until you are behind him, quickly pick him up and throw him. Try not to throw him off the mountain because this is considered cheating and it will not harm him. Throwing Big Bob-Omb off the mountain will also make you start over if you have managed to capture and throw him before. Throw him three times to get the star.
Star Five - Mario Wings In the Sky
This star can only be collected by Mario and it cannot be done at the beginning of the game. You will need to come back later to get this star. To get the star for this round you will need to play as Mario and you will also need to get a feather from one of the "?" boxes. These boxes are deactivated when you first begin to play Super Mario 64 DS and need to be activated by Mario later on.
Once you are able to get the feather, Mario will be able to fly. To get Mario to fly, jump off of a cliff or another high point by jumping three times in a row. You can also shoot out of a cannon to begin flying. The aim is to get to the floating island in the sky. Next to the island will be five rings of coins. You have to fly through the center of these rings and get the center coin. If you miss a ring, you can fly back to the island, get another feather just in case, to keep Mario flying and fly back to the missed rings. Whenever you successfully fly through a ring, you will see a red number appear. Once number five shows up, you will be able to fly back to get the star.
Star Six - Find 8 Red Coins
To get the star this time around, you need to run around and find 8 red coins. If you see a red/pink Bob-omb, talk to him and you will briefly be able to see where the 8 coins are on the map. Once you collect all 8 coins, you will get a star.
Star Seven - Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate
You will need to get through the gate to get the seventh star. Wait for the chomp to attack and then ground pound the pole he is tied to three times. Once he is free, he will eventually bust through the gate, allowing you to get the star. Another option is to wait until you free Luigi later on in the game. Get a flower from a "?" box and he will turn invisible, allowing him to walk through the gate.
Star Eight - 100 Coins
Get 100 coins and you will receive the final star in this stage of the game. You cannot leave the stage or die before getting 100 coins or you will have start over. Stakes can ground pounded to get a few coins or you can run around them three times to also get some coins.

To beat the last bowser you have to grab his tail, spin and throw him. Keep throwing him until you can throw him into a mine. After you throw him on the spike three times, he is defeated.
To pick up bob-omb, get behind him and press B once your close enough. Then press A to throw him away from you, but don't throw him off the mountain or he'll accuse you of cheating.
