We ordered our meals a few minutes after; I chose a cup of their (vegetarian) vegetable soup and a tossed salad with creamy Italian dressing, and my companion chose a small Greek salad with cheddar cheese in replacement of feta and an order of fries. My soup was brought out a few minutes later, by our friendly waiter, Ace. The soup appeared to be of a tomato/vegetable base with a variety of colorful veggies inside: corn, green beans, peas, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and lima beans. It was served pleasingly hot, with saltine crackers on the side.
Soon after, our salads and fries were brought out. My tossed salad was served only with tomatoes, that tasted a bit over-ripe, but I enjoyed the bits of carrots throughout the iceberg lettuce mixture, and the creamy Italian dressing was tasty as well. I do, however, wish there were more toppings on the salad (besides the onions I did not want). Perhaps cucumbers or green peppers would have gave a tad bit more variety to a standard tossed salad. Nonetheless I enjoyed the cuisine.
My friend's small Greek salad was a plentiful serving. Upon the iceberg lettuce mixture, there was the cheddar cheese she requested, tomatoes, onions, kalamata olives, and stuffed grape leaves. The fries, which we both tried, were delightfully crisp on the outside with a smooth mashed potato texture on the inside - some of the best fries I've had! She also raved about the fries, and I did not hear a complaint about the salad either. I often order a similar salad - their side Greek salad, which is served on a typical tossed salad dish and has similar toppings (except with feta cheese). Top Diner's side Greek salad is always a top choice for me, being consistent and a good bang for your buck.
Upon finishing our meals, we were promptly asked if we wanted anything else, and though their desserts are often quite a treat, we declined on this occasion. The total for one juice, a cup of soup, tossed salad, small Greek salad, and an order of fries came to less than $14 with tax.
I know I will continue to frequent Top Diner for it's consistent, friendly service and delicious diner fare, and I recommend it for any diner-goers living in or visiting the Lehigh Valley or Allentown, Pennsylvania.
