Super Six Tournament Standings and Updates

Following the Dirrell Vs. Abraham DQ the Super Six Has Been Shaken Up

Jake Emen
The second stage of the Super Six World Boxing Classic began this past weekend, as Arthur Abraham took on Andre Dirrell in what would turn out to be an eventful and controversial evening. Dirrell was wining the fight on points, while Abraham finally began to apply effective pressure in rounds 10 and 11.

However, he was too eager to do his damage, winging a jarring shot at Dirrell while he was down and unprotected, leading to his own disqualification and leaving Dirrell a concussed mess on the canvas. Abraham was the tournament leader going into the bout and still is with 3 points, since the other Stage 2 matches have not yet been completed. The Super Six standings are now more bunched up though, and only look to be getting more crowded with some competitive fights on the horizon.

The fight did not only cost Abraham points in the tournament however, the fight also cost him his undefeated record and exposed in his game a serious vulnerability to speed, movement and stamina. While he would still be favored at this point to beat Carl Froch and Allan Green, along with Mikkel Kessler depending on his next performance, good luck to him if he has to meet Andre Ward.

Ward is a more disciplined fighter than Dirrell with the same physical gifts, who will also have in the back of his mind a score to settle for his former Olympic teammate and buddy Andre Dirrell. Here are the full Super Six standings and records following Abraham vs. Dirrell, along with what's next for each man.

So that's how the Super Six World Boxing Classic looks as of today. Kessler vs. Froch is scheduled for April and Ward vs. Green is set for June, so there's sure to be more excitement in the near future for boxing fans! The Super Six definitely has been living up to its billing, and the excitement that it creates should serve notice to the rest of the boxing world about what the sport is still capable of, even without the huge names such as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao being involved.
