Super Size Me: I Told You Junk Food is an Addiction

The More You Eat It, the More You Want It... Just like Heroin

Dear Diary,
I struggle along, my goal to lose weight seems to have stalled. The good news is my fasting, or morning blood sugar levels have stayed consistently below 100. In fact out of the past 14 days my morning test strip has been below 85. This concerns me a bit because my Doctor recommended I don't drop below 90.

He also wants me to remain on my current medication program until my next checkup... I'm a bit torn as to what I should do.

I credit the good test strips to a concerted effort to eat less fat, combined with considerably more activity. My walking program has slipped some, though outdoor activity has increased because the warmer weather is allowing me to take care of projects and repairs that were put off through the winter months.

Through co-workers, who like myself are diabetic, overweight, and suffering from assorted conditions, I heard of a movie called Super Size Me. A documentary about a young man, of good health with perfect body weight and overall excellent eating habits, who went on a 30 day diet of only eating at McDonalds.

His experiment in Junk Food provided results that surprised the fleet of medical professionals who monitored his health during this period.

He gained 25 lbs in one month... That's right, 25 lbs!!! His liver function starting failing in the same ways found in alcoholics, with the same dire consequences if he didn't turn his life around.

Depression and cravings took over his life with a trip to the drive through at Mickey Dee's being the quick high he needed to get through the day. Sounds suspiciously similar to a drug addiction to me.

If you're looking for a motivational tool to help you see the Light (Low Fat) way of life, click on Super Size Me and take the time to watch this movie.

It's a real eye opener as to how Corporate America has led us to the trough and helped create a situation where it's hard not to be addicted to junk food.
