Planning a party can be tough, especially when it comes to teenagers. You want to pick a theme that he or she will love that will fit your budget. If you want to make the sweet sixteen super sweet, consider some of these themes. They are sure to please even the most fickle teen.

Create the underground or club scene. This can be great for a male or female. If the sweet sixteen party is for your daughter, glam it up a bit. Teens love the idea of "dressing up and going out". If the party is for a male child, try to keep it cool and casual. Dancing, glow in the dark necklaces, and strobe lights make for a night of fun.

Base the sweet sixteen party theme on a specific era of time. Party goer's should dress in appropriate attire for the time period. Music and décor should match the style. Some of the most popular time era themes are for the 70's and 80's. This is usually one of the more exciting party themes. Just make sure to have your camera handy. Take into consideration what would best suit your son or daughter's personality.

Have a ball, literally. This theme is more female oriented and guaranteed to be a hit for your teen. She gets to be the main focus of the party, the center of attention. If you lack room, consider hosting the party outdoors or at a local community room. You want the décor to be not only grown up, but very glamorous. This is sure to be a night that your daughter will never forget.

Plan a theme centered around a movie. A really popular movie theme such as a "Twighlight" party, serves as a great example. Teens can dress as their favorite character from the movie. Try to make the theme unique though, spice it up with your teens personality. Other favorite movie themes may include Grease and several other classics that all teen love.

No matter what sweet sixteen birthday party themes you choose, plan carefully. Consider the number of teens attending, who will chaperon, and expect the party to last longer than expected. While many of these themes are relatively inexpensive, it is easy to go overboard. Compile a list of the needed items, take a look at your budget, and see how you can cut back if necessary. The theme is only part of the party.
