SUPER Video Conversion Software Review

Converting video files from format to another can be a real pain. Software can often be expensive, and most of the time is limited in what it can do (e.g. can only convert to one or two formats, or can only convert from one or two formats, etc.). That is where SUPER comes in to solve all your problems.

SUPER (stands for Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer) is here to solve all of those problems. First of all, SUPER is freeware: isn't going to cost you a dime. Secondly SUPER boasts the ability to convert from any format to any format you choose, and is full of options on just the type of file you are looking for.

As you would expect from something claiming to be Simplified, SUPER is pretty easy to use. While there are quite a few features and options you have to work your way through, it is all fairly intuitive and explanations are included with each feature if you just hover your mouse over it for a moment, making it even simpler.

To start off, loading in video files is a snap. Just open up SUPER, open up the folder with the files you want to convert and the rest is drag and drop. Drag the file from its original folder and drop it into the SUPER program. It'll take just about any video file format you can imagine.

Then you need to decide what video format you want to convert to. Again, just about any video format type you can think of is available. Depending on the format you can also choose between separate video and audio outputs (for example MPEG files can have video in MPEG 1, 4, etc., and audio in MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MP3 formats).

Other options you can choose from include video scale size, aspect ratio, frames per second and bitrate, giving you more control over the output of your video. The SUPER program makes it easy to load up all the specific information from your original video file, so you can match and change these aspects knowing exactly what is included in the original file: no guesswork involved.

Put simply, SUPER is powerful, intuitive, easy to use and best of all its free: just about everything you would want in video conversion software.

However you can't get everything you want in life and SUPER does have its problems. For example, SUPER seems to overestimate file sizes. (It will tell you a file is 887 Mb, when in reality it is more like 734 Mb). This isn't too big a deal once you get used to it, but it is annoying when you are first familiarizing yourself with the program.

The real big problem with SUPER, though, is just how much juice it takes to run this badboy. It encompasses a whole lot of processing power. Now my computer isn't the most powerful machine on the block but it has some pretty decent going power and it is fairly well all eaten up whenever I run SUPER to convert some files, making anything but the simplest of tasks (browser surfing or word processing) all but impossible.

Even with these problems, SUPER is far and away the best freeware conversion software I have ever run across. There is simply no comparing with its versatility in the world of freeware and even a lot of paid software utitilities.
